Our Laudemio extra virgin olive oil is a strong, bold, certified-organic Tuscan oil, naturally rich in polyphenols and fragrantly aromatic. Made from Frantoio and Moraiolo olives grown and hand-picked on the historic Fattoria di Maiano estate near Florence, it's brilliantly green and clear, with the scent of freshly mown grass, green tomato and almond and an intense, typically Tuscan peppery finish.
Its polyphenol content is exceptional: 470mg per kilogram — well above the 250mg per kilogram that EU Regulation 432/2012 requires for an oil to claim health benefits — so it's a true high polyphenol oil, wonderful both drizzled over food and taken by the spoonful. Being pure extra virgin olive oil, it's suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and gluten free.
The Fattoria di Maiano estate has origins dating to the 15th century and sits amid the hills of Fiesole, just 5km from the centre of Florence. A fully organic estate of nearly 300 hectares, it grows 20,000 olive trees across 110 hectares; the Frantoio and Moraiolo olives are picked entirely by hand in November and December, then pressed in the estate's own mill.
Laudemio itself carries centuries of history. In the Middle Ages, "laudemio" was the name for the very finest of the olive harvest — the "flower" of the crop — reserved for the local lord's table. The modern Laudemio was born in the 1980s, when a group of Tuscan farmers formed a pact for production excellence ahead of any national or European law, built on strict rules, rigorous quality control and two exacting tasting commissions that allow only the very best oil to carry the Laudemio name. (A lovely footnote: Queen Victoria herself inaugurated the estate's romantic Regina Park back in April 1893.)
