Merula extra virgin olive oil is produced by Don Alonso, the Marques de Valduezza on his Perales de Valdueza estate in Extremadura, western Spain. The oil presented in a superbly designed, award winning tin is a distinctive blend of four olive varieties: Arbequina (50%), Hojiblanca (20%), Piqual (15%) and the very rare and only grown in Extremadua, Marisca (15%).
Tangerine, apple peel and ripe tomatoes give way to a nutty creaminess in the mouth, balanced with more ripe tomatoes, a fresh cos lettuce note and some gentle black pepper on the finish.
Merula means blackbird in Latin and derives from the many blackbirds that fly around the Marque’s magnificent estate.
